ATCO Commercial Division initiated a novel method of tube
string protection approximately two years ago. This was a
method of lining the tubes for oil, gas and water wells to
prevent deterioration from corrosive elements with the medium
being pumped through the well. These fluids and gases often
contain high concentrations of Hydrogen Sulphide at very high
temperatures. The methods used in the past for overcoming this corrosion
have either involved the use of exotic and therefore expensive
well tubes, or internal pipe coating which can be subject
to damage and therefore increased corrosion during workovers
on the wells. ATCO Commercial Division introduced Saudi Aramco to Duoline,
manufactured by Maxtube, which is a pre-formed GRE (Glass
Reinforced Epoxy) well liner, tolerant to extremely high temperatures
and high concentrations of H2S and other corrosive materials.
It inserted inside the tubing before the tubing is strung
down the well. As an experiment, we lined the tubing of three wells, which
had previously been giving Saudi Aramco severe problems during
workovers and wire line work because of harsh corrosion to
the tubing resulting in many tubing pulls. These wells have now been in operation for almost two years
and Saudi Aramco have had no problems whatsoever during workovers
and wireline work. We have now been asked by Saudi Aramco
to provide them with pricing for the lining of a further three
wells, all in the Berri Field, which we feel confident we
will be successful in receiving the order for with more to
come. The success of this initiative has been the result of the
efforts of one of the sales engineers in the Commercial Division,
Fadhel Al Hashem, who despite being told by Saudi Aramco that
they would insist upon a minimum of two full years successful
operation for the original wells before the product would
be approved for use, persevered with project, continually
checking with the various engineers and departments involved
within Saudi Aramco, to bring this to the position in which
it is in today. Congratulations Fadhel |
